A Bead Board / Silver Reflector is a versatile, lightweight tool used in film, video, and photography to bounce and shape light. It consists of a sheet of beadboard (polystyrene foam) with one side covered in a silver reflective material and the other side left white. The silver side provides a harder, stronger light source, while the white side offers a softer, diffused bounce.

    • Powerful Fill Light: The silver side acts like a high-intensity mirror, reflecting a strong, bright, and slightly cool-toned light. It is ideal for filling in deep shadows, particularly in high-contrast outdoor, sunny conditions.
    • Controlling Contrast: It is used to balance lighting ratios by reducing the difference between the key light and the shaded side of a subject.
    • Versatile "Two-in-One" Tool: The dual-sided design provides maximum flexibility:
    • Silver Side: Provides a "harder," more specular, and more intense light that can reach farther distances.
    • White Side: Provides a softer, more diffuse, and neutral reflection that acts as a gentle, flattering fill light for portraits.
    • Simulating Sunlight: In outdoor settings, it can be used to reflect sunlight, acting as a "kicker" or secondary light to brighten shadows.
    • Increasing Light Efficiency: The silver coating allows it to maintain most of the original light's intensity, making it excellent for throwing light into dark areas.
    • Portability & Customization: Being lightweight and rigid (yet breakable), these boards are easy to transport, set up on stands, or even hand-hold, making them popular for both studio and on-location shoots.
